Egypt's army spokesperson, Ahmad Ali, said in a press conference that "many demonstrators spread rumors that the army and police murdered children. Those who disseminated this lie campaign used photographs from the war in Syria.
"The Egyptian army kills its enemies, not its children," he said, and added that "an armed group attacked the Presidential Guard's headquarters, using live fire and hunting rifles." (Roi Kais)
