Weinstein: Eliyahu for chief rabbi may cause legal issues

Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein demanded that chief Sephardic rabbi nominee Shmuel Eliyahu, currently Safed’s head rabbi, respond to accusations that he had made racist statements in the past. In a letter to Eliyahu, the AG wrote, “It is likely that your appointment will be unsuitable and will create legal difficulties.”
Weinstein is considering inviting the rabbi to meet and discuss the issue. (Aviel Magnezi)
