Chief of Staff Benny Gantz
awarded Thursday the 8200 Unit of the Military Intelligence Directorate for its accomplishments over the past two years.
The committee that decided to award the unit stated that the award was given due to the unit's handling of "challenges in new and complex fronts," as well as for its "entrepreneurship, innovation, creativity and determination… contributing to the security of the state of Israel."

Seeing as the defense establishment is facing budget cuts, it was reported that more funds will be allocated to technology and intelligence than before.
During the ceremony, Gantz said, "The important work that you do, usually performed behind the scenes… is extremely significant to the army's capabilities."
The IDF chief added that the army "is fighting differently from the way it used to fight in the past."
He commended the Military Intelligence Chief Major General Aviv Kochavi, for taking the directorate to new frontiers.
Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon was also present at the ceremony, and addressed the unit, saying "Because of your ability to spot threats ahead of time, and more often than not manage to thwart them, and because of your contribution to IDF fighting, your unit sets an example… of always being ahead of the enemy."
"New threats form new fronts, some of which have only you to protect," the defense minister added.
