Egypt's defense minister defends ousting president

None

Egypt's military chief has defended the ouster of the Islamist president, saying he acted upon the will of the people after the "stumbling" of the former government. In his first remarks since announcing the ouster of President Mohamed Morsi on July 3, Gen. Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi said the armed forces "acted at the urging of the people."

State-run media carried his remarks Sunday. He said, "No one is a guardian of the public, and no one can dictate or force path or thought that they don't accept." (AP)
