Eliyahu appeal to be heard 2 days before rabbinate vote

Hearing of the petition filed with the High Court by MK Issawi Farij (Meretz) to disqualify Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu from running for Chief Rabbinate is set for July 22, two days before the rabbinate election date. The hearing will be held before a panel of three judges: Chief Justice Asher Grunis, Yoram Danziger and Zvi Zilbertal.

On Monday, Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein informed Eliyahu that he could not protect his candidacy if he filed an appeal with the High Court, given the alleged racist remarks attributed to him and the investigation against him. (Aviel Magnezi)
