United States President Barack Obama addressed the death of journalist Helen Thomas, who worked the White House for 49 years, and said she was a "true pioneer" who opened doors and broke barriers for generations of women. Thomas resigned three years ago following harsh statements against Israel.
Obama added: "What made Helen the 'Dean of the White House Press Corps' was not just the length of her tenure, but her fierce belief that our democracy works best when we ask tough questions and hold our leaders to account." (News Agencies)
