Public housing law falls at ministerial committee
None
Following a dispute between coalition ministers, the Public Housing Law failed to pass during its hearing by the Ministerial Committee for Legislation. The Finance Ministry had brought the law to a vote. It would have enabled sale of public housing apartments to tenants living in them.
During the discussion, Ministers Tzipi Livni and Sofa Landver said they would support the law only if funds from sale of public housing units would be used to build more public housing, and would not be only be collected as rent, which was what the Finance Ministry planned. (Moran Azulay)
