Peres says surprised Lebanese president blamed Israel for blast

President Shimon Peres said in a meeting with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon that he was surprised to learn that the Lebanese president had blamed Israel for Thursday's blast in Beirut and added, "Bloodshed in the Middle East must be stopped. Israel is not involved and I won't address specifics."
The UN chief on his part urged Israel and the Palestinians to avoid actions that would jeopardize the peace talks, adding that Israel has much to contributed to the region but that peace requires leadership and compromise. (Noam Dvir)
