Responding to gunfire from Syria,
IDF fired a Tamuz
missile at the direction of a Golan Heights post from which mortar shells
were fired on Saturday.
The IDF reported that a hit has been detected, and a Syrian army canon that fired artillery fire at the direction of Israeli territory was destroyed.
Syrian mortar shells fired earlier on Saturday landed in an open area in the Golan Heights. No damage or injuries were reported.
According to the IDF,
the mortar landing was apparently random spillover from the fighting in Syria.
UN troops in the region were informed of the mortar.
Earlier Saturday, another mortar hit near the border, but has yet to be located on the Syrian or Israeli
side of the border fence.
Also Saturday, it was reported that 16 Syrian civilians injured by fighting between the army and rebels in their country were evacuated to Israeli hospitals.
Two of them were evacuated to Nahariya Hospital, two to Poriya Hospital in Tiberias, and the others to Ziv Medical Center.
