The incident began at 3 am when soldiers from the haredi battalion Netzah Yehuda entered the refugee camp to arrest a wanted Palestinian who was released from an Israeli prison just a few months ago. According to the Palestinians, the wanted man is Basam a-Asadi, a senior Islamic Jihad terrorist.
The IDF said that during a search of his home, residents opened fire at the soldiers and hurled Molotov cocktails in their direction. The Palestinians claim the locals threw rocks at the ultra-Orthodox troops. The clashes continued for a few hours, and the injured Palestinians were evacuated to a local hospital.
