Jordan: First nuclear reactor cleared for construction

The Jordanian nuclear supervision committee okayed the construction of a research nuclear reactor in the Jordan University of Science and Technology to the north of the country, close to the city of Ibrid. The five megawatt reactor will be the first of its kind in the oil-poor Hashemite Kingdom.

The committee's statement, posted on the Naharnet website, said that two South Korean firms were charged with the construction, which will cost some $130 million. (Ynet)
