Dirar abu-Sisi, head of Hamas' rocket development array, embarked on a hunger strike from his cell in the Israeli Eshel Prison. Abu Sisi, an engineer, was accused two years ago of membership in a terror organization and of hundreds of attempted murder.
Abu Sisi is protesting his continued solitary confinement and claims he receives inadequate medical care. The Israeli Prison Service stated that "due to the hunger strike the prisoner has been pursuing for the last three days, all personal items were removed from his cell. He receives the same appropriate medical care as other prisoners." (Ilana Curiel)
