Report: EU officials warned Assad against attacking Israel

Senior officials in the European Union told Kuwait's al-Rai newspaper that Bashar Assad was warned against attacking Israel in case of a military strike on his country. According to the sources, Assad used back channels to convey that he does not intend to attack Israel as it would lead the campaign into unwanted territory.
The sources said that Western nations asked Israel to exercise restraint in case of a possible Syrian assault and that Israel agreed so long it's "within reason." (Elior Levy)
