American TV eyes Israeli book

ABC network orders script for pilot based on 'My Lesser Half' by Guy Meroz, Daniel Lappin, which tells story of two friends who decide to go on diet

Another Israeli success is on its way abroad: The American Broadcasting Company (ABC) has ordered a script for a pilot episode based on Guy Meroz and Daniel Lappin's book, "My Lesser Half."

The book, published by Yedioth Ahronoth, came out in Israel a year ago and entered the best sellers list. It is likely to be translated into English now.

"My Lesser Half" tells the story of two overweight friends who decide to start a diet. Eventually only one of them succeeds.

The pilot episode will be written by Daniel Lappin and produced by the Sony company. The person behind the sale is Adam Berkowitz, co-head of television at Creative Artists Agency (CAA).

"This is one of the most delightful and exciting things that have ever happened to me," says journalist Guy Meroz. "If it does make progress, it will be wonderful.

"This isn’t even my field and it suddenly happened. I have always believed in this book, but I never imagined they would think of turning it into a television series in the United States."
