Syrian Deputy FM: Chemical disarmament will not change situation

Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal al-Miqdad stated that the transfer of chemical weapons to outside the state will not change the balance of power in the region. He denied that the Syrian regime used chemical weapons to attack the suburbs of Damascus on August 21, claiming that the rebels were responsible.
In an interview with the Iranian channel al-Alam, he also expressed the hope that the international community would pressure Israel to disarm of chemical, biological and nuclear weapons, stressing that Syria is prepared to block any possible Israeli aggression. (Roi Kais)
