Name of woman suspected of murdering children released

Court extends detainment of Karina Bril, woman suspected of murdering her two children Igor, 7, Mira, 5, by stabbing last week, before attempting suicide. Bril yet to be questioned by police

The Jerusalem Magistrate's Court cleared for publication on Tuesday that Karina Bril, 36, is the woman suspected of murdering her two children, Mira, 5, and Igor, 7, in Jerusalem last week.

 

The court extended Bril's remand by eight days. She was hospitalized in serious condition at Hadassah Ein Kerem Medical Center after trying to kill herself and has not yet spoken to police. On Saturday, the hospital released a statement saying that there had been a slight improvement in her condition.

Bril, who made aliya this year, is suspected of stabbing her children with a knife. Her sister, who was in the house at the time of the stabbing, tried to stop her from doing so but was not successful. In the moments during which the sister went downstairs to try to get the help of a neighbor, Bril tried to put an end to her own life.

“She is fully conscious and under observation in the general ICU unit,” said Dr. Yuval Weiss, Acting Director General of Hadassah. “She cannot speak due to injury to her neck, but in a few days, she will be able to communicate by writing.”

Jerusalem District Police said Bril would be questioned when her medical condition allowed.

 

When asked whether the suspect had any knowledge that she was under arrest, police representative noted: "She knows there is a police officer by her room 24 hours a day."

 

Bril, originally from the Ukraine, is a divorcee who immigrated to Israel with her children while their biological father remained in Moscow. He arrived in Israel after police contacted him with news of his children’s deaths.

 

Bril’s present boyfriend is currently in Switzerland.
