This isn’t the first time Jerusalem has not been recognized as being part of Israel.
In April 2012, British newspaper The Guardian corrected a caption which, according to them, wrongly referred to Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
Israel’s Foreign Ministry spokesman at that time issued a statement about the absurdity of not recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
Jerusalem was designated by the Knesset as Israel’s capital in 1949. Both major US political parties recognize Jerusalem as the capital, although the city hosts no foreign embassies and the international community largely does not recognize it as the capital.
