Austria's coalition slips in elections as extreme-right gains power

Austria's two government coalition parties appeared to have lost some support in parliamentary elections Sunday but seemed likely to keep the absolute majority. Meanwhile, a right-wing, anti-immigrant party made gains.
With more than 60 percent of the vote counted, the Socialist Party had 26.5% backing and its centrist People's Party partner was at 23.7%. The right-wing Freedom Party had 22%, a gain of nearly 4 percentage points, after a campaign strong on anti-immigrant and European Union-skeptic sentiment. (AP)
