State to compensate teacher who criticized 'Rabin's legacy'

The Education Ministry will pay NIS 450,000 in compensation to a teacher who was suspended due to leveling criticism at the curriculum regarding the late Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, the Jerusalem District Court determined Thursday.

The teacher, Yisrael Shiran, was suspended 13 years ago after he sent a letter to teachers, insisting that focusing on Rabin's legacy was irrelevant when marking the day of his murder. Shiran said he was pleased with the court's decision, but stressed he still believed the Education Ministry "must separate between Rabin's horrific murder and his controversial legacy."
