In a conference held by the Institute for National Security Studies to mark the 40th anniversary of the Yom Kippur War, Zvi Zamir, Mossad chief at the time of the war, and Maj.-Gen. (res.) Eli Zeira, head of Military Intelligence at the time, took the stage for a heated debate about Israel's intelligence work in 1973.
Zamir said "the entire intelligence establishment was unprepared to 'play war,'" while Zeira claimed "my mistake was not properly learning about the spirit of the Egyptian people." (Yoav Zitun, Roi Mandel)
