Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed deep sorrow over the death of Rabbi Ovadia Yosef and said: "I heard with great grief about the passing of the Rabbi Rishon LeZion, Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, one of the greatest arbiters of our generation. Rabbi Ovadia was a leader in Torah and Halacha, and was a mentor to thousands."
Netanyahu added that "he worked relentlessly to the glorification of Israeli heritage, and his rulings were considerate of the time and ever-renewing reality in Israel. I send my condolences to his family, students, and many followers." (Moran Azulay)
