Italy's navy says nine bodies have been recovered so far from the capsizing of a migrant boat off the Sicilian island of Lampedusa.
Navy spokesman Cmdr. Marco Maccaroni says another 221 people have been rescued and are on Italian and Maltese ships. An unspecified number of injured were taken by helicopter to Lampedusa. Maccaroni says the dead include at least four women and a child; another five are on board a Maltese ship. Earlier, Italy's coastguard reported at least 50 died after the boat capsized. (AP)
