Report in Lebanon: Assad said WMD deal is moral defeat

None

Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar, which is affiliated with Hezbollah, reported that Syrian President Bashar Assad told visitors at the presidential palace recently that the deal to dismantle his regime's chemical weapons entailed a moral and diplomatic defeat. He claimed his regime stopped manufacturing these weapons in 1997.

According to the report, Assad said his army's weapons infrastructure is based on missiles. "It is enough to (attack) Israel's airports in order to paralyze it," he was quoted as saying. (Roi Kais)
