A candidate for Lod's city council was shot in the stomach Monday evening in a city street. He is in moderate to serious condition, and was rushed to Assaf Harofeh Medical Center.

Dozens of his relatives arrived at the hospital, and police are worried public disruptions may follow.
The injured man has a prominent slot on one of the Arab parties' tickets in the municipal elections. Witnesses said the candidate was visiting a family supportive of his party, and when he left he was shot with one bullet in the stomach by a veiled man. The shooter escaped.
News of the incident spread quickly, and hundreds of the candidate's supporters arrived at the hospital. Large police forces are also present, in order to prevent disruptions.
