Owner says dog escaped yard despite being chained; attacked girls 'terrified'

An American Staffordshire terrier (Amstaff) dog attacked on Thursday three girls at the Meron Junction in northern Israel.

 

An investigation revealed that the dog escaped from his owner's yard in nearby Moshav Meron. The girls, aged 12 to 14, are suffering from scratches and anxiety. They were evacuated to the Ziv Medical Center in Safed. They were expected to be released later in the day.

Safed Police Commander Chief-Superintendent Ofer Kantrovitch said the Amstaff's owner told investigators that the dog managed to escape from his yard despite being chained.

 

"The dog was caught and the suspect is being interrogated at the station," Kantrovitch said. The incident took place at around noon.

 

The Safed Medical Center's spokesperson's office said the girls, who arrived in Israel a few months ago, are "terrified."

 

About six months ago a 13-year-old girl from Beersheba suffered moderate injuries when an Amstaff dog who broke free from his owner bit her at a local playground.
