Muslim women in Israel may be Qadis in Sharia courts

Women will be able to run for appopintment for the position of Qadi in Sharia courts in Israel, announced Justice Minister Tzipi Livni, after reaching an agreement with senior Sharia court qadis Zini and Samara.

The three agreed that in the coming year, they would find a suitable woman to serve in the position, in parallel to the rabbinical courts. Livni said, "It is time for us to act for the appointment of women with authority and cardinal impact on the lives of women."
