Egypt FM: Mulling purchase of Russian weapons

Egyptian Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy told Russian Arabic-language television station Russia Al-Youm that he may consider the possibility of purchasing new military equipment from Russia. He noted that military relations between the countries date back to the 1970s.
Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will land in Egypt on Wednesday to meet with senior officials including Defense Minister Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. The two sides are scheduled to discuss a large weapon procurement deal, as the US has suspended its military assistance to Egypt. (Roi Kais)
