Indictment filed against murderer of Tomer Hazan

Military prosecutor says Nidal Amar was planning to use IDF soldier's body to negotiate release of his Tanzim operative brother serving time in Israeli prison. Inmate reportedly urged his brothers to get him out using 'Gilad Shalit 2'

The military prosecutor filed an indictment on Thursday against Nidal Amar, 42, for the murder of soldier Tomer Hazan some two months ago. Nidal Amar worked with Hazan in the same restaurant, and invited him to drive with him to his home for a visit in the village of Beit Amin, where he murdered Hazan, the indictment noted.

Indictments were also filed against Nidal's brothers – Salem and Nur al-Din – for involvement in the plan to murder Hazan in bid to negotiate a deal to release Salem, a Tanzim operative incarcerated in an Israeli prison for involvement in terror activity.

The three are accused of murder, kidnapping and obstruction of justice.

According to the prosecution, Amar planned to use Hazan's body to negotiate a deal to release Amar's brother, Nur al-Din Amar, who had asked his brother Salem, during a 2012 visit, to negotiate his release using the body of a dead soldier.

The inmate reportedly told his brother they should carry out a "Gilad Shalit 2." Nur a-Din told his brother he didn’t care how his release was catalyzed: "Kidnap a soldier, kill him – it doesn't matter – as long as I get out."

The brothers then decided Nidal would be responsible for executing the plan, as he was working in Israel. A week later, Nidal informed his brother Salam that an Israeli soldier was employed in the restaurant in which he was working and that he might be a suitable target for the plan.

Nur a-Din agreed to pay his brother millions of shekels for executing the plan.

The indictment notes that several weeks later, Nidal convinced Hazan to ride with him to his place of residence.

Before leaving for the village, Nidal had reportedly informed Salem that the "lamb," Hazan's codename, was with him.

On September 20, as the two were headed to the village, the cab in which they were riding was stopped by Nidal's brother dressed as a Palestinian security officer. Impersonating an officer, Salam then tied Hazan and Nidal's hands.

When Hazan was tied, Nidal wrapped a belt around Hazan's neck and strangled him to death. The two then hid his body in a well.
