Report: Al-Qaeda-linked rebels cut off head of wrong person

Al-Qaeda affiliated Syrian rebels have asked for "understanding and forgiveness" for cutting off and putting on display the wrong man's head, the Telegraph reported Thursday.

Members of Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham held up a bearded head before a crowd in Aleppo. Their appearance was filmed and posted online, prompting viewers to note that the head was not the head of an Iraqi Shia militant fighting for President Bashar Assad, but rather the head a member of Ahrar al-Sham, a Sunni Islamist rebel group.
