Gunmen kill Egypt counter terror officer

None

Gunmen shot dead an Egyptian counter terrorism officer late Sunday in Cairo, the interior ministry said. The officer with the national security agency was gunned down in his car as he drove to his office, the interior ministry said in a statement.

Security officials named the dead officer as Mohamed Mabruk and said he had worked on militant Islamist groups, who have escalated their attacks since the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi. Al-Qaeda-inspired groups have claimed attacks in the capital, including a September bombing that targeted the interior minister. He survived the bombing. (AFP)
