US criticizes Egypt demonstration law

None

The US administration is harshly criticizing new Egyptian legislation that prohibits uncoordinated protests and expressed concern over its effect on Egyptians' ability to assemble peacefully. A State Department statement called on Cairo's government to "respect individual rights."

It was further noted that "While demonstrators have the responsibility to express their views peacefully, the government has a responsibility to protect the fundamental freedoms of the Egyptian people." (Yitzhak Benhorin, Washington)
