Source: Japanese diplomat survives stabbing in Yemen kidnap bid

Armed men stabbed a Japanese diplomat in the Yemeni capital Sanaa on Sunday after he resisted a kidnapping attempt in front of his house, a security source said.
Kidnapping of foreigners in Yemen is common, often carried out by disgruntled tribesmen seeking to press the government to free jailed relatives or to improve public services, or by Islamist militants linked to al-Qaeda. (Reuters)
