After storm, import taxes on fruits, vegetables removed

Published: 01.05.14, 15:44 / Israel News

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Yair Shamir and Finance Minister Yair Lapid agreed to a series of easing of measures on custom taxes for importing fruits and vegetables. The discounts will be given for a limited amount of time in order to make up for the deficit that was caused by last month's winter storm.

As part of the deal, there will be tariff exemptions on zucchinis, eggplants and lettuce until February 28, and the exemption will continue until the end of March for cucumbers and tomatoes. From March until the end of the year there will be no import taxes on apples and pears. (Avital Lahav)
