UNHCR slams Israel's asylum regulations

The Office of the United Nations for Refugees (UNHCR) on Friday denounced Israeli new rules regarding asylum requests, saying they could lead Israel to violate international law by holding asylum seekers indefinitely.

According to a law passed on December 10, illegal migrants can be placed in a detention center for up to a year without trial. (AFP)
