Eyal Golan show in US canceled over sex scandal

Israeli singer's performance in San Diego called off following pressure from Jewish community members due to Golan's alleged involvement in sexual relations with minors

As he got on the plane for a concert tour in the United States, Israeli singer Eyal Golan thought he was leaving all his troubles behind. But his alleged involvement in sexual relations with minors caught up with him overseas.

Golan's performance in San Diego, which was scheduled to take place on Sunday under the sponsorship of the local Jewish Community Center (JCC), was called off several days earlier following pressure from community members.

The community members said it was inappropriate for Golan to perform there just two months after he was questioned by the police over the sex scandal.

Golan's agent in the US, Fouad Ovadia, charged that "he has been convicted before being found guilty." He added that a lawsuit was being considered against the JCC.

"This isn't very damaging for me, but it's caused huge damage to his image. And it's a shame, because all the other performances were sold out," he said.

Liam Productions, the company representing the singer, said in response that "the concert tour was a huge success and Eyal is on his way to a big show in Mexico City."

Dan Shapiro, JCC's director of marketing in San Diego, said he had been instructed not to comment on the matter.
