Egypt's army chief promoted, expected to run for president

Egyptian army chief General Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has been promoted to the rank of field marshal, the presidency said on Monday, fuelling speculation he is about to retire from the military and run for president.

Sisi, who toppled Islamist president Mohamed Mursi last year, is widely expected to contest the election due within six months. (Reuters)
