Suicide car bomb explodes at Lebanese army checkpoint, 2 killed

A senior Lebanese army officer says a suicide attacker has blown himself up at an army checkpoint in Hermel, a northeast town in Lebanon, after soldiers tried to search his car.

Security sources say the attack was a suicide car bomb. Two Lebanese soldiers were killed in the blast, the sources further said. The attack at the entrance to the city of Hermel, an area where the Shi'ite group Hezbollah has a strong presence, also injured several people. (AP, Reuters)
