Iran takes legal action against opposition leaders

TEHRAN - An Iranian semi-official news agency says the Islamic Republic's judiciary has taken unspecified legal action against two opposition leaders who have been under house arrest for three years.

Fars quoted senior judiciary official Mohammad Javad Larijani on Tuesday as saying he was hopeful that Mir Hossein Mousavi and Mahdi Karroubi could have their house arrest lifted after the conclusion of the case.

Hard-liners blame the two for unrest that followed the disputed 2009 re-election of former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. They were put under house arrest during 2011 Arab Spring uprisings. (AP)
