UN: Surge of Mideast violence means talks critical
The UN political chief says "dangerous escalation" in Israeli-Palestinians violence last week brought the Middle East to the brink of a new crisis and underscored the importance of forging ahead with flagging US-led peace talks.

Jeffrey Feltman briefed the Security Council on Tuesday on the situation in the Middle East. He also called attention to the dire humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, appealing on donors to help raise $250,000 a month needed to resolve an acute shortage of medical supplies. (AP)
