Education Minister Rabbi Shai Piron has decided that the upcoming school year will begin on September 1. Piron made the decision about the change of date after accepting the conclusions of the professional committee who deliberated on the matter.
The holiday calendar for the school year will not include a sequence of vacation days between Yom Kippur and Sukkot. In addition, students will be given four extra school days at the expense of the Hanukkah and Passover vacations which will both be cut short by two days. (Shachar Chai)
