Golan Heights murder: Man stabbed to death roommate

Emergency services alerted to Kibbutz Kfar Haruv in the southern Golan Heights find 21-year-old man dead in his home with signs of violence on body.

A 22-year-old man was found unconscious inside his apartment room in Kibbutz Kfar Haruv, in the southern Golan Heights. Magen David Adom emergency services called to the scene pronounced him dead and reported that signs of violence were evident on his body. 

 

 

The victim's roommate, a 21-year-old man born in Ma'alot, was arrested on suspicion of committing the murder. According to police, the two were childhood friends. Golan police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Police report that the murder took place in a room at an apartment in the kibbutz. Forensic police officers arrived at the scene, which was sealed off for initial investigation. According to suspicions, a 21-year-old man murdered his roommate at about 3:00 am after the two got into an argument. It was further reported that the murder suspect walked up to the guard at the kibbutz's main gate two hours after committing the murder, and told him that he stabbed his roommate. "Nice to meet you, I stabbed my roommate", the suspect told the frightened guard.

MDA paramedic Taleb Abdullah who was dispatched to the scene said: "A 21-year-old young man was found lying unconscious in one of the rooms of the apartment with signs of violence on his torso; he was dead, without a pulse and he wasn't breathing. His injuries were very serious and we were forced to determine his death on the scene."

 

Golan Heights Police Commander Chief Superintendent Yossi Katav supplied further details: "The suspect walked up to the guard at the kibbutz and told him he killed his friend. He started walking towards the main road near Mapalim junction, where he was arrested by officers in a patrol vehicle. Simultaneously, the kibbutz security officer went to the apartment, but the door was locked. He looked inside the window and saw a body lying on the floor."

 

Northern Police spokesman Moshe Weitzman said: "The suspect, who was born in Ma'alot, lived with the victim in the apartment. Golan Heights police station officers spotted the suspect walking outside the kibbutz."

 

The murder comes five days after IDF soldier Yiftach Grady was stabbed to death outside a nightclub in Ra'anana.

 

An initial investigation into the stabbing indicated that it was preceded by an argument between the involved parties, who were then removed from the club by security guards. Outside, the conflict between the sides resumed and escalated.
