1 dead, 3 wounded in eastern Ukraine city of Mariupol

Violence flared Wednesday morning in the eastern Ukranian port of Mariupol, where a spokesman for pro-Moscow militants told Russia's Itar-Tass news agency that one person was killed and three wounded in an attack on a checkpoint.

Eastern separatists are due to hold a referendum for Independence on Sunday, a vote that they US says will be "bogus". (Reuters)
