New Israeli ambassador to Egypt makes first state visit to meet with government officials
The new Israeli ambassador to Egypt, Haim Koren, arrived in Cairo for his first state visit in order to replace the old ambassador Yaakov Amitai according to Egyptian media.
According to reports, aid to Egypt's Deputy Foreign Minister was present at the welcome party for ceremonial purposes. Koren arrived alongside seven companions including the ambassador.
Upon landing, Koren traveled with his entourage to the quarters where the Israeli embassy has been working since the original embassy closed in 2011 when protesters broke in.
Over the course of his stay, Koren is expected to meet with senior foreign ministry officials and return to Israel within two days.
