Man accused in Iranian's death depicted as violent

HOUSTON - A Jordanian-born man facing murder charges in the 2012 death of an Iranian activist also played a role in his own son-in-law's death nearly a year later, US federal prosecutors said Thursday.

Prosecutor Jim McAlister said at a court hearing that Ali Irsan tracked down his son-in-law, Coty Beavers, and "killed him."

McAlister said Beavers and Irsan's daughter had a restraining order against him, but Irsan violated it and tracked down the couple. No charges have been filed in Beavers' death.

Irsan has been charged by Harris County prosecutors with the murder of the activist, 30-year-old Gelareh Bagherzadeh. He's also charged for what authorities say was his involvement in a welfare and Social Security benefits scheme. (AP)
