Modern Language Associated rejects Israel boycott

NEW YORK - A prominent scholars' group has failed to pass a resolution critical of Israel and travel restrictions in the West Bank. The Modern Language Association announced Wednesday the measure did not win the required support from at least 10 percent of the 23,900 members.

The resolution urged the US State Department to challenge Israeli restrictions on travel by some American academics of Palestinian descent who wanted to work with Palestinian universities.

The final tally was 1,560 votes in favor and 1,063 votes against. The measure failed by 830 votes. (AP)
