Government approved fine for employers violating foreign workers' rights

Labor, Welfare and Health Committee approved a hefty fine on Israeli employers who violate the rights of their foreign workers. The fine would also be imposed on individual employers of foreign caregivers.

 

Employers who deduct more than 25 percent of the worker's pay to fund their benefits (medical insurance, housing, etc.) would be fined up to NIS 20,000 (NIS 10,000 for individual employer).

 

In addition, employer who would hire a foreign worker without offering the worker a written contract in their native language would be fined up to NIS 35,000 (NIS 15,000 for individual employer). The fine will come into effect upon its publication in two weeks. (Zvi Lavi)
