US: Hamas, not PA, responsible for Gaza rocket fire

The United States has condemned Wednesday's rocket attack from Gaza on southern Israel, but stressed that at present Hamas is responsible for maintaining calm in the coastal Strip.

"We expect the Palestinian Authority will do everything in its power to prevent attacks from Gaza into Israel, but we acknowledge the reality that Hamas currently controls Gaza," State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said. (AP)
