Jerusalem Film Festival postpones opening night
After open-air venue where it was intended to be screened was deemed a security risk, Eran Riklis’ film 'Dancing Arabs' will now receive its world premiere on July 17.
Organizers of the Jerusalem Film Festival (JFF) have decided to postpone the opening night gala by one week due to the current Israeli-Palestinian hostilities
unfolding.
The festival was originally scheduled to open Thursday, with the world premiere of Eran Riklis' "Dancing Arabs," which was penned by Israeli-Arab journalist and author Sayed Kashua. The film will now open on July 17, as the open-air venue where it was intended to screen was deemed a security risk.
"The escalation in the last few days has been distressing to all of us, and we are hoping that quieter days will come soon," said JFF director Noa Regev. "The festival will continue as planned, in accordance with the guidelines given to us by the Home Front Command and the police.
"The team at the Jerusalem Cinematheque is looking forward to seeing the many lovers of cinema who visit us each year," she added.
The remainder of the festival will continue as planned, running from July 10 to July 20. More than 200 films are scheduled to be screened, in the presence of guests such as Spike Jonze, David Mamet and Martina Gedeck.
