Gaza rockets hit south Israel

Twelve rockets fired at regional councils in north-western Negev in late night salvo, after violent days sees Israeli Bedouin, two soldiers killed.

Another salvo of rockets hit Israel's south late Saturday night, with 12 rockets fired at the north-western Negev Regional councils of Sha'ar HaNegev and Eshkol,

  

 

Rockets fired earlier in the day saw one person killed and three others were wounded near Dimona at around noon, while rockets fired in the early evening saw hits in Ashkelon and a number of communities in central Israel, including Rehovot and Nes Tziona. Two soldiers were also killed in clashes with terrorists.

Four rockets exploded in Eshkol Regional Council shortly after 11 pm. No injuries or damages were reported.

 

At 10:45 pm, a report was received that two Egyptian soldiers sustained wounds after a rocket fired from Gaza Strip exploded near Rafah Border Crossing.

 

At around 10 pm, six rockets exploded in open areas in Sha’ar HaNegev Regional Council. Two rockets exploded in Eshkol Regional Council.

 

At around 9 pm, nine rockets were fired at Be'er Sheva and Kiryat Gat in the south, with one rocket being intercepted over the Be'er Sheva and two over Kiryat Gat. The remaining rockets fell in open areas.

 

At around 7 pm, sirens went off across central and southern Israel, and initial reports claimed Iron Dome had intercepted at least one rocket about a Rehovot-area community. At around 6:30 pm a rocket salvo was fired at the Be'er Sheva area. Iron Dome intercepted three of the rocket while the five additional rockets exploded in open area.

A few minutes before hand, Iron Dome intercepted rockets fired at Ashkelon, and shrapenel from the blast hit an electric line, cutting power off in different parts of the city. Meanwhile, sirens continued to roar all over the south.

 

At around five, two rockets exploded in the Sdot Negev Regional Council.

The man killed Saturday when a rocket hit a village near Dimona was identified as Aluj Aday, 32, from one of the Bedouin villages in Israel's Negev desert region. Three members of his family were also wounded in the incident, including a baby and small boy.

 

They were taken to hospital in Dimona by relatives after the strike, and the 32-year-old man died shortly after arrival.

 

Of the wounded, a five-year-old boy sustained light wounds, a four-month-old baby is in serious condition and a woman suffered moderate wounds. The children were taken to Soroka Medical Center in Be'er Sheva for further treatment.

Israel's southern residents have been under heavy rocket fire throughout Saturday, with sirens wailing every few minutes, and the Iron Dome missile defense system repeatedly in action.

 

Four rockets also fell in open areas of Dimona on Saturday morning, causing no injuries. In Eshkol Regional Council, a rocket struck a building at around 11am, causing a fire to break out. At around 3pm, four rockets struck open areas in the Eshkol region, which Saturday was the target of an infiltration attempt by terrorists from Gaza

 

Also Saturday morning, a rocket fell in an open area in Sdot Negev. Another hit a chicken coop in Hof Ashkelon.  

  

The attacks came hours after Ashdod residents were targeted in an overnight rocket barrage. The coastal city was awakened by the Code Red siren at around 2:55am, The Iron Dome missile defense system intercepted four rockets. A fifth rocket exploded on a road in a residential area, causing light damage. No one was hurt in the attack.

Earlier, the Code Red siren was sounded in Sdot Negev and the Hof Ashkelon regional councils. The residents of Hof Ashkelon were also awoke to the sound of the Code Red alert on Saturday morning.

Since the beginning of the IDF's ground offensive in Gaza on Thursday night, 135 rockets have been launched at Israel, among them 48 intercepted.
