The IDF Spokesperson's Unit released a film Monday morning showing the terrorists who infiltrated into Israel this morning through a tunnel.
Observation units identified the two terrorist cells early in the morning. Israeli Air Force planes attacked and hit the first cell. An IDF force deployed to the area killed some 10 terrorists from the second cell.
IDF forces are conducting a manhunt for the terrorists who escaped back to the Gaza Strip, as they continue to scan the area in which the incident occurred.
The terrorists infiltrated into Israeli territory Monday morning between two kibbutzim, Erez and Nir Am. After two hours, in which residents were directed to remain indoors and lock their doors – roads were even closed to traffic south of Ashkelon – IDF forces killed the terrorists.
The first shots were heard at 6:40 am on Monday, after which residents in a number of southern communities including Nirim and Kissufim were asked by authorities to stay in their homes.
The intense fighting in the Shuja'iyya neighborhood in the eastern Gaza Strip has also continued into Monday. Overnight, the IDF forces killed 10 terrorists in a series of incidents. At least one terror tunnel was uncovered in the neighborhood.
IDF forces have continued to push into the neighborhood despite the heavy short-range gunfire from terrorists and in spite of a Hamas threat to operate more terror tunnels.
Since the beginning of Operation Protective Edge, the IDF has attacked some 2,800 terror targets – including a hit on the head of Hamas' reconnaissance unit.
